Zak! Back to College Giveaway: Microwave Living

Zak! Back to Giveaway

Eating food from the microwave is pretty much the norm when attending college. Today, almost every dorm room has a microwave, and when hunger strikes it is always the most important appliance around. Not only is cooking in the microwave easy, it also can be very inexpensive (because we all know that when we were in college, we were spending all our money on books and school supplies).

What I remember from my college days in the dorm was a lot of Ramen Noodles, Easy Mac & Cheese, and quick TV dinners.  Eating this in rotation for 3 weeks straight was more than enough to make me seek out some more variety! Unfortunately, options can be limited when your only source of cooking is a microwave. So, because I understand how challenging it can be to find suitable alternatives when you’re in college (because you’re spending all your time in class and studying) I did some of the research for you and came up with some great links that might give you some ideas of ways to vary your college cuisine – at least a little.

1. Food.com: 70 Recipes in College Dorm Cooking (Microwave)

2. About.com: 25 Things You Can Cook in Your Dorm Microwave

3. Epicurious.com: Campus Chow

4. HEB: 5 Easy Microwave Recipes

5. Allrecipes.com List of Microwave Cooking Recipes

Essential supplies for your microwave cooking venture include knives, flatware, cups, coffee cups, a can opener (I can’t emphasize this one enough) and microwave-safe dinnerware.

While we can’t provide you with all these essentials, Zak Designs does have a new microwave-safe dinnerware set called ZakWave that is heat resistant, microwave-safe, BPA-Free, and great for college dorms! To make it easier for one of our readers to get started collecting these college cuisine essentials, Zak is giving away a set ZakWave dinnerware.
